Villa chasing landmark Spain goal
David Villa looks in pole position to score Spain's 1,000th goal in international football when they face Northern Ireland at Windsor Park.
The Valencia striker is a man in form for his country as they prepare to face Northern Ireland in a Euro 2008 qualifier.
He scored a brace at the weekend in the victory against Liechtenstein to make it seven goals in 14 appearances since making his debut in February 2005.
"It would be exciting to score the 1,000th goal but we haven't made any bets to see who will get it," Villa told the UEFA website.
"I felt very comfortable during the week in training and now we have to go step by step in each match and earn points to take us to the finals.
"We could have scored more goals against Liechtenstein, but I think people were satisfied and it's not a bad way to start the competition."
Liverpool's Luis Garcia scored Spain's 999th international goal but there will be plenty of competition for the honour of scoring the next.
Borja Oubina is a surprise candidate. The 24-year-old Celta Vigo midfielder made his belated Spain debut as a substitute against Liechtenstein.
He became the 17th player to earn his first cap under Luis Aragones since the veteran coach took charge in July 2004.
Spain have scheduled a training session at Windsor Park on Tuesday just hours after arriving in the province.
