According to Superdeporte Marcelino will be the coach next season. Altough no other source has this new and the club officially denied but, it can be true, they just don't want to announce it yet.
I hope it's true, we can't get a better coach for next season, maybe Emery, and I doubt any of the big ones would like to come here, it's the same for big named players. And Marcelino did a great job last year at recre, and this year at racing.

Any thoughts on this?

I changed the tittle so we use it for the coaches we try :)

I don't know if it is true that big name coaches don't wish to come here. I think no big name coach wanted to come here when Quique was fired because they probably realized it was going to be a difficult situation. Mourinho was offered the position and said no, and I think he made the right choice at the time. It's difficult to try and clean up somebody else's mess during the season. Very few coaches are good at doing so. Do it and fail and your reputation gets tarnished, something no big coach nor their ego wishes to deal with.

And I'm not so sure that no big names don't want to come here. It depends on a number of circumstances. Trezeguet could have been here but Quique didn't want him. Snijder was arguably the best player in Holland last year and Valencia was well on the way to signing him, but Quique didn't want him. Van der Vaart wanted to come here last summer, but Hamburg didn't wish to release him. I don't think having big name players is necessarily the answer to a team's problems, they really help of course, but what I think Valencia needs more than anything is players who play for the team and not for themselves. This edition of Valencia sorely lacks this type of player.

As for Marcelino, I know the same as you. He played a 4-4-2 with Recre last year and Racing this year. His man management skills I have no idea on, which are very important. Koeman's man management skills are a bit lacking. Emery, on the other hand, prefers to play with a 4-3-3 or some variant thereof. I think I would prefer Emery, he enjoys attacking football, but I'm not so sure that this team, as it is currently constructed, would make sense for someone like Emery. But then again, I'm somewhat expecting big changes this summer in personnel, so who the team will be constructed by is just as important as who gets to guide it.

I've been paying attention to what Racing players say about Marcelino... Munitis said that he is the best coach he ever had. According to him, Marcelino wants to control every little detail of the match, of the tactic and even of the players' life. Marcelino sleeps thinking of football and that's remind me of somebody: The big Rafa Benitez (much bigger since he tried the English butter but that wasn't the meaning)

Marcelino looks like the guy that knows perfect what his squads can do. He played quite nice football with Recreativo with high pressure defending and now abit more destructive but effective in Racing.
He has way more talent, money and ambition here, probably will have alot to say since the sporting director role is gone.

The search continues I guess.

Looks like Sanchez now wants Emery. He was a striker and plays more attacking football, that's why I would welcome him. I don't want Manzano.
But Salom has to say the final word hasn't he? What if he doesn't want Emery and goes for another? Then Sanchez searches in vein?

I think that after failing to sign Marcelino we have to go for Unai Emery.Manzano is like Quique ( i prefer someone like quique than a new koeman  ) .

It's an interesting article about Emery. They claim he is the new Benitez, but who knows. If I'm reading the article right, Emery had his coaching license while still a player and he tries to find every advantage possible for his players. Enjoys the attacking football, which is nice, though I think what Emery will need most is a bit of patience from Valencia fans - spare the '...vete ya' for some other season -, support from those above, whomever they are or will be, and of course, a deeper squad. I'm interested to see how Emery's Valencia would play in Europe fighting for the UEFA. Actually, with a few more players and some always needed good health, Valencia has a good opportunity to try and complete the job that EuroGeta couldn't. Let's hope he can get the whole team on his side rather than just a handful of players while the others play merely when the inspiration strikes them.

edit: If Emery comes, Sunny may stick around next season. He at least knows him from playing against Poli Ejido when Almeria was in the BBVA last season. Or it may not.

If Emery comes, will he get his own write-able icon?

Salom left Valencia. The 2nd President of the club resigned after not being loved anymore by Soler. According to the media, this is exactly as a Soap. Soler, that yesterday was in love with the man of the beard, now he prefers Wolstein. Yes, you think right, Valencia looks like a soap.

I'll say a couple of things:

1.- Salom was a good friend with media. This is very bad for somebody with lots of responsibility and money to spend in players.

2.- Salom wasn't a professional. In addition he was a Levante supporter (I know it for sure even if he says he's not) so, why was in Valencia club? I mean, a professional will go where he is better paid, but Salom wasn't getting any salary... so why he was here? Fame? Relations? Money? None of the reasons are good enough for me.

Yes, the soap opera doesn't seem to want to end.

Seriously, Soler has to be one of the worst Presidents to ever manage a football club. Well maybe the dudes who ran Zaragoza into the second division are worse, but still, the indecision that Soler has is incredible. Isn't he a good judge of character, if at all? Sure a person needs to know what he is doing, but character will determine if the person will do it well or not. Why does Soler like these ass kissers? Sure the surface area is large, but wouldn't it be better and more enjoyable if a woman or women did that job for him?

Valencia should get these friends of the media out of the team. I would rather the media suffer and VCF have good people in the club than fame-seeking morons who's allegiance is to their image first and the club second. Also, please, less interviews from players - some are articulate and thoughtful, Marchena comes to mind, but most shouldn't be allowed near a microphone. I don't understand why Valencia trods a player out seemingly every week to pontificate about the state of the club - it merely provides more opportunities for players to put their foot in their mouth such as Vicente, Villa, Joaquin, Albelda, and Cañizares.

Oh and when will Emery be signed?

This is the first coach I've actually had a good feeling for since, well, Benitez. I was never fond of Quique, was indifferent to Koeman but thought he did some decent things - shame the team thought otherwise - and well, of the caretaker coaches I liked Oscar better than Voro.

When you consider that Emery has done quite well with table scraps, I think he is a good coach. Also, he isn't afraid of a challenge that may potentially soil his reputation a little if he fails, that is working with less talent if Valencia sells off Villa et al, so I like his confidence in his abilities, unlike Marcelino.

If you want to know the formations that Almeria used throughout the season, check this link out:

http://www.football-lineups.com/team/Almeria/

He mainly used the 4-3-3, so if he does bring it with him, Joaquin will need lots of lectures, tutorials, extra-classes, seminars, correspondence courses, chalk diagrams, and many, many, many practical exercises to make this 'crazy' formation understandable.

LoL

I'm glad we got Emery. Finally a coach who plays attacking football. I'm looking forward which players he wants to use.
I wish we wouldn't sell Villa. It's crazy to hear that they wanna send for 30 and then buy someone to substitute him for 15-20. What's the point in this....

We must forget Benitez. We can't keep following the next Benitez. Unai has to be Unai and point. He's a different style, but he looks brave to me.

Oddly enough Rafa, it seems that he does. http://www.realzaragoza.com/r2z/paginas ... hp?id=2746

.confundido

Signing Emery looks even better now. Marcelino apparently likes the euros while Emery likes the challenge.

Good sentence.

Every day I'm more and more excited about Emery. I like everything he says:

1.- He wants to talk personally with Del Horno before taking a decision about him.
2.- He prefers to sell Villa to Silva
3.- He is confident about recuperating Vicente's talent
4.- He thinks strategy in free kicks is really important
